A young girl, Sasha (played by Nina Drobysheva), encounters the handsome Air Force pilot Alexei (played by Evgeniy Urbanskiy). During the few days of Alexei's brief stay, their feelings for each other quickly intensify. Afterwards, Alexei returns to the front lines, during which time Sasha discovers she is pregnant with his child. Soon after, the baby is born, but along with the news of the birth comes the tragic report that Alexei has been killed in action. In despair and anguish, Sasha grits her teeth and vows to raise their love's offspring. After the war ends, Sasha’s sister and brother return home, and it is then that Sasha receives astonishing news: Alexei is not dead but has been captured by the enemy. This experience of being captured leads to Alexei losing the government's trust, and he suddenly falls from being a hero to being labeled a traitor by all.
