An affair leads to a tragic fate for two generations. Kihoko Nonomiya (portrayed by Hiromi Nagasaku) is unable to have her lover's heart and body, and is forced to abort her unborn child. On a rainy day, in despair, Kihoko enters her lover's home and takes their baby daughter, Erina. In the following years, she travels with "her daughter" Kaoru, seeking a peaceful place for their "mother-daughter" lives. As time passes, the grown-up Erina (portrayed by Mao Inoue) experiences various aspects of life, seemingly following the same path as her "mother" Kihoko. No matter how unwilling she is to look back, she recalls the short but beautiful time shared with Kihoko, guided by fate... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Mitsuyo Kakuta and won 5th place in the 2011 Film Critic's Top Ten, along with Best Actress (Hiromi Nagasaku) and Best Supporting Actress (Eiko Koike); it also won the Best Film and Best Actress awards at the 36th Hochi Film Awards.
