In the Mong Kok area of Kowloon, Hong Kong, a gangster named Ah Jie's (Andy Lau) actions are swift and he values loyalty, showcasing leadership qualities. To take care of his impulsive and prideful younger brother, Fly (Jacky Cheung), he continuously navigates various troubles, even going so far as to make enemies with a tough character from the underworld (Danny Lee) for Fly's sake. Ah Jie's cousin, Ah O (Maggie Cheung), comes to Mong Kok for medical treatment and temporarily stays at his home. The two slowly develop feelings for each other, but worried that his identity might ultimately harm Ah O, Ah Jie chooses to bury his feelings. When Ah Jie finally understands that true emotions cannot be suppressed and wants to resist his fate, Fly once again finds himself in life-threatening danger due to his pride, presenting Ah Jie with the dilemma of choosing between friendship and love.
