"Nyad" is an extraordinary true story about resilience, friendship, and the triumph of the human spirit, telling the inspiring life story of world-class athlete Diana Nyad. Thirty years ago, Diana (played by four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) abandoned long-distance swimming to become a prominent sports journalist. At the age of 60, she became obsessed with completing an epic swim that she had never been able to finish: a 110-mile journey from Cuba to Florida, famously known as the "Mount Everest of swimming." Diana is determined to be the first person to complete this swim without a shark cage, embarking on an exciting four-year journey with her long-time friend and coach Bonnie Stoll (played by two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster) and a dedicated sailing team. This inspiring film marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winning documentary producers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (known for "Free Solo" and "The Rescue"). "Nyad" is produced by Andrew Lazar (p.g.a.) and Teddy Schwarzman (p.g.a.), with a screenplay by Julia Cox, adapted from Diana Nyad's memoir "Find a Way."
