"The Gray Soul" is adapted from Philippe Claudel's novel of the same name (2003 Renaudot Prize). The film traces back to the World War I era, telling stories from that time. In 1917, in a village close to the front line that has yet to be scorched by war, a young girl is murdered. The location of her murder is just a stone's throw away from the prosecutor's residence. For years, this prosecutor has lived a reclusive life guarding his own secret. The investigation of the case is led by Judge Milch, who has long been scorned and insulted by the prosecutor. Thus, the investigation becomes a sinister game, where creating suspects is more important than uncovering the truth. In such a bloodied era, who is the victim? Who is the murderer?
