Xiao Qiang (played by Yin Xiaojun) has lived with his father on a mountain until one day his grandfather decides to send him to the city for a better education. At first, Xiao Qiang struggles to adapt to city life, longing to return to the mountain and completely indifferent to school and books. His grandfather loses patience and takes extreme measures to bind him, forcing him onto the path of school. At school, he tries to find his friend Wenwen (played by Xu Cuixue), whom he met on the mountain, but to no avail. However, he encounters a group of martial arts enthusiasts who challenge him; Xiao Qiang attempts to fight back with the skills he learned on the mountain but faces setbacks. But Xiao Qiang does not get discouraged. He joins their ranks, practices diligently, and eventually makes progress. Meanwhile, he learns about Wenwen's family's financial troubles, and to help her, Xiao Qiang asks his grandfather to lend money. His grandfather proposes a bet, promising to provide support as long as Xiao Qiang shows improvement in his studies. Xiao Qiang keeps his word and studies hard. However, just when he seems to be nearing victory, the creditor kidnaps Xiao Qiang and Wenwen's brother, forcing his grandfather to raise a ransom.
