Former pilot Ted Striker (played by Robert Hays) is haunted by psychological trauma from a war, leading to his fear of flying. His girlfriend, Elaine Dickinson (played by Julie Hagerty), is a flight attendant. One day, Elaine breaks up with Ted and goes to work on a flight. In an attempt to win her back, Ted goes through great lengths to get on the plane. However, a series of hilarious misadventures ensue on board. First, the passengers suffer from food poisoning, and even the captain is unable to escape the chaos. Left with no choice, the only person with flying experience, Ted, must sit in the cockpit with his girlfriend to pilot the plane. He activates the autopilot, allowing the plane to operate on its own, but it cannot land properly. Thus begins a thrilling emergency landing journey, and will Ted manage to win back his girlfriend's heart? The film features absurd humor that guarantees laughs, making it a classic Hollywood comedy.
