Middle-aged stage actor Yasuji discovers his screenwriter wife, Oto, has had an affair. However, he quietly closes the door and leaves, as if nothing has happened, continuing to live a harmonious and loving life with her as usual. It isn't until Oto's death that Yasuji realizes he never confessed his feelings to her, which becomes a source of inner turmoil. Subsequently, still grappling with his grief, Yasuji begins preparing for a performance of "Uncle Vanya," immersing himself in work.
