On the occasion of her 18th birthday, the docile and graceful girl India Stoker (Mia Wasikowska) is shocked to hear the tragic news that her father, Richard (Dermot Mulroney), has died in an accident. Compared to her mother Evelyn (Nicole Kidman), who has always had a troubled relationship with her husband, India, having hunted with her father since childhood, naturally bears the overwhelming sorrow and pain. On the day of the funeral, a man with a kind smile but a chilling presence suddenly appears beside the Stoker mother and daughter.
