Lockhart (played by Dane DeHaan) is sent to a sanatorium in the Alps to bring back the company's CEO who is undergoing treatment there. On the way back, Lockhart has a car accident and fractures his left leg, forcing him to temporarily stay at the sanatorium to recover. During his stay, Lockhart meets the mysterious girl Hannah (played by Mia Goth). The eerie atmosphere of the sanatorium and the succession of scientifically unexplainable events around Lockhart lead him to question the nature of the institution. The ambiguous relationship between Hannah and the head doctor Volmer (played by Jason Isaacs) further raises Lockhart's suspicions about the events. Ultimately, Lockhart uncovers the secret hidden within the sanatorium, and at the same time, his nightmare begins.
