The "old" of Cantonese opera provides an excellent dramatic background for the "New Wave." Ann Hui's second work uses the backstage of a theater troupe as the stage, crafting a story that embodies style within reality. Cheung Chau can be described as a large backstage, with its quaint island scenery, complemented by the iconic makeup of Cantonese opera, dazzling costumes, and sensory-rich stage performances, creating an atmosphere of eerie mystique. The entangled feud between two generations surprisingly involves commercial scams and military-political affairs, with complexities of yin and yang, humans and ghosts, new and old, young and old, true and false. Siu Fong Fong's performance is deftly controlled, bringing to life the whimsical character of "Thirteen Points." Director Ann Hui's curious touch further depicts a unique charm in Cantonese opera.
