Female journalist Rachel (Kate Beckinsale) receives intelligence from a source regarding a rather disgraceful act by the government. With the support of her husband Ray (David Schwimmer), she publishes this news report. The government ultimately charges Rachel with leaking state secrets, and the arrogant prosecutor Patton (Matt Dillon) presides over the case. In court, facing Patton's relentless questioning, Rachel calmly recounts the entire event, and public opinion begins to sway in her favor. However, Allen insists that Rachel must reveal her source, putting her in a difficult position. Allen starts to exert pressure on public opinion and Rachel's family, while Ray gradually succumbs to the pressure from the state, suggesting Rachel should yield. But Rachel expresses her determination to Ray: truth above all.
