Female journalist Rachel (Kate Beckinsale) receives intelligence from a source regarding a rather disgraceful act by the government. With the support of her husband Ray (David Schwimmer), she publishes this news report. The government ultimately charges Rachel with leaking state secrets, and the arrogant prosecutor Patton (Matt Dillon) presides over the case. In court, facing Patton's relentless questioning, Rachel calmly recounts the entire event, and public opinion begins to sway in her favor.
