On the Greek island of Cephalonia, pure and serene, it is like a paradise on earth. The islanders live here in harmony, undisturbed by the outside world. However, the turmoil of World War II soon shatters this peace. Captain Antonio Corelli (played by Nicolas Cage) leads soldiers to the small island, and both sides maintain a hostile distance. The only companion for Corelli is a mandolin, which alleviates his loneliness. By chance, Corelli encounters the local girl Pelagia (played by Penélope Cruz).
