The gangster boss Ah Guan (played by Tony Leung Ka-fai) has a successful career but a chaotic family life: his son Sid (played by Jaycee Chan) is a rebellious rock youth who is determined to inherit his father's business; his daughter Sina (played by Josie Ho) is a veterinarian who is dating her colleague Michael and feels disconnected from her father's life. Sid has to flee to a remote mountainous area in Taiwan to escape the wrath of another gang leader, Old Ma (played by Cheng Kwan), after he steals his woman Carmen (played by Zheng Xiyi), along with Ah Guan's loyal assistant Ah Zhao (played by Cheung Yau-yang). In Taiwan, Sid joins the Zen Drum Clan and changes his name to Ah Dao, where he meets a girl from the drumming team named Red Bean (played by Lee Sinje) and finds peace of mind in the simple life of the team; Ah Zhao also attends classes at a community school and discovers his life's purpose. In Hong Kong, Ah Guan's business is affected by Sid's escape, but it also leads to a reconciliation with his daughter Sina, accepting her life and relationship. Meanwhile, the Zen Drum Clan's world tour begins, with the first stop in Hong Kong. As Sid and his father Ah Guan gradually come to understand each other and begin to reconcile, Ah Guan is assassinated in prison. Sid's simple life is shattered, and the business entanglements and grudges with Old Ma come rushing in. How will he face all of this?
