Li Qiushui (played by Brigitte Lin) from the Tianshan Sect falls in love with her master and senior brother, Xiaoyaozi, unaware that Xiaoyaozi actually loves her twin sister, Li Canghai (also played by Brigitte Lin). Meanwhile, the Tianshan Child Master, Wu Xingyun (played by Gong Li), has a love for Li Canghai that transcends gender.
