Although Toula (played by Nia Vardalos) was born and raised in America, she lives in a gigantic Greek world where her entire large family embodies her father's authoritative will, insisting on the spiritual motivation that Greece is the source of the world. From a young age, Toula, who has been observing her family's quirky behavior, hears the most from her mother and neurotic grandmother: marry a Greek, have a bunch of Greek kids, and feed your belly until the end of the world. At 30 years old, Toula is messy and overweight. One rainy night, while continuing to listen to her father's nagging, she decides to change her fate as she walks into the family restaurant where she works day after day! She goes to school, visits a beauty salon to tidy up her appearance, and when she exudes confidence, her destined prince, Ian (played by John Corbett), appears. The two fall in love at first sight and eagerly begin to plan their new family. For this large Greek family, Ian is undoubtedly an outsider, and the complexities and struggles of the wedding are just beginning, triggering a series of humorous events due to differing values.
