Female novelist Leo (played by Marisa Paredes) has been writing romance novels under the pen name Amanda for over twenty years. However, she has recently hit a creative block. Her husband, who works in the military, has been abroad for a long time, causing Leo to feel inexplicably tense in her marriage and unable to concentrate on writing, with even a pair of boots bothering her. Through her friend Betty's introduction, Leo meets editor Angel (played by Juan Echanove). Although Leo refuses his job offer, Angel's perceptiveness leaves an impression on her. Meanwhile, the publisher is quite dissatisfied with Leo's current situation, demanding that she get back on track or they will expose her deeply concealed true identity. When her husband finally returns home, he leaves hurriedly, stating that their marriage is over. Heartbroken, Leo attempts suicide with medication, but is fortunately brought back to life by a call from her mother. Angel enters Leo's life when she feels helpless, offering to share Amanda's secret with her. Friend Betty admits to having an affair with Leo's husband, and Leo, uninterested in pursuing this further, goes back to the countryside with her mother to recuperate. Eventually, with the support of those around her, she finally breaks free from the gloom. The film won multiple professional awards, including Best Actress at the 1996 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
