Rizwan Khan (played by Shahrukh Khan), a Muslim with Asperger's syndrome, immigrates from Mumbai, India, to San Francisco, USA, following the death of his mother and his brother Zakir (played by Jimmy Shergill). While helping his brother promote beauty products for his cosmetics company, Rizwan meets Mandira (played by Kajol), a single mother who runs a salon. Despite his brother's objections, Rizwan insists on marrying the Hindu Mandira, and their family is harmonious and happy.
