The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Naoki Prize-winning author Shigematsu Kiyo, directed by Yukiko Mishima, who previously directed "Glass Bullrush." The story follows the life of a divorced man, Shin (played by Tadanobu Asano), who lives a simple and happy life with his second wife, Nanae (played by Rina Tanaka), and her two daughters from a previous marriage. When Nanae becomes pregnant, her eldest daughter expresses a desire to meet her biological father, Sawada (played by Kankuro Nakamura), whose domestic violence caused Nanae and Shin’s divorce. Both Nanae and Shin strongly oppose this, while the eldest daughter fiercely resists, leading Shin to feel frustrated and even generate negative feelings toward the unborn child.
