In 1919, with the end of World War I, war-torn Europe had yet to recover, and the Paris Peace Conference, aimed at addressing the issues left by the war and laying the foundation for peace, was about to convene. As one of the victorious nations, China sent a delegation of five, including Gu Weijun (played by Chen Daoming), who was then the Minister to the United States and a full representative. However, against the backdrop of European and American countries, as well as Japan and other powers seeking to redivide their spheres of influence, the number of representatives from China was reduced, and Germany's interests in Shandong were on the verge of falling into Japanese hands. Gu Weijun made a passionate speech at the conference, refuting the unreasonable demands of the Japanese side, yet justice seemed so fragile in the face of interests. Gu Weijun's friend, Xiao Kejian (played by He Zhengjun), had his wife Mei (played by Xu Qing) travel to Paris specifically to find him, as he was devoted to the patriotic workers' movement. Kejian's activities in France and the overwhelming voice of the masses back home made Gu Weijun and others at the conference feel the weight of their responsibilities.
