Bernard (Dustin Hoffman) and Vivian (Lily Tomlin) are a deeply affectionate couple who run a private detective agency, helping people solve various problems in their lives. One of their clients, Albert (Jason Schwartzman), is clearly in a difficult situation, as it seems that in an instant, everything in his life has spiraled out of his control and is rapidly heading into the unknown.
