At the end of the 1990s, a large-scale wave of layoffs occurred in Northeast China, with women facing particularly severe unemployment. Many women heard that they could earn money by working as nannies in France, and went abroad despite taking on huge debts. Upon arriving in Paris, they found themselves in dire straits and had no choice but to "work the streets." Belgian director Olivier encountered them by chance, conducted a long-term investigation, and brought in Wang Xiaoshuai as a producer to make the film "Going Ashore."
