Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman), who has just emerged from imprisonment, successfully campaigns to become the President of South Africa. He leads the people in dismantling the apartheid system and takes the initiative by hiring a white security team, fostering communication among people of different races. As the host of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, South Africa re-enters the international sports community. However, the Springbok team, composed entirely of white players, is viewed by many black citizens as a symbol of racial discrimination. To break down the barriers, Mandela, with foresight, supports the Springboks' exchange matches with visiting teams from abroad. He meets with the Springbok captain, Francois Pienaar (played by Matt Damon), and they engage in a heartfelt conversation. Pienaar leads his white teammates on tours across South Africa, promoting rugby to the general public and turning the sport into a bridge connecting black and white communities... This film is adapted from John Carlin's work "Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation."
