Twenty years have passed in the blink of an eye. Returning from afar, Renton (Ewan McGregor) steps back onto the soil of Edinburgh. Little did he know that upon his return, he would encounter Spud (Ewen Bremner), who is in a desperate situation and attempting to commit suicide. It turns out that Spud not only suffered a failed marriage but has also fallen back into drug addiction. Encouraged by Renton, Spud decides to heal his inner wounds through writing.
