David (played by Tim Roth), who has a somewhat melancholic expression, is a nurse dedicated to caring for critically ill patients. He feeds them, helps them shower, assists them with bathroom needs, and performs tasks that even their closest relatives would hesitate to do. He is a quiet yet very dedicated person, providing meticulous care for his patients. He feels great sadness when a patient passes away. After attending the patient's funeral, he begins the process of looking for a new patient, starting a relationship that is destined to end in tragedy. To relieve his mental stress, he runs every day. One of the patients David cares for is Marta, a cancer patient whose disease has spread and requires chemotherapy. Initially wary of David, she fully trusts him after learning from a friend that he once had a son with terminal cancer. When Marta can no longer endure the severe side effects of chemotherapy, she asks David to help her die peacefully. David initially refuses her request but, after some hesitation, changes his mind and helps her fulfill this wish.
