After graduating from junior high school, due to family circumstances, 15-year-old rural boy Ah Yuan (Wang Jingwen) gives up his studies to work in Taipei, experiencing the hardships of life for the first time, yet still striving for his dreams. A year later, Ah Yuan's childhood sweetheart Ah Yun (Xin Shufen) also arrives in Taipei, realizing that the real Taipei is a world apart from what Ah Yuan described in his letters. However, the challenging environment does not diminish their joy, as they have each other. When Ah Yuan is serving in the military, the daily letters he sends help alleviate Ah Yun's loneliness in Taipei at first. However, as time passes, the heartfelt words from a distant lover can never compare to the whispers of a living boy in real life, and coupled with the fear of the future, Ah Yun chooses to marry someone else before Ah Yuan returns from his military service. Despite his sadness, Ah Yuan can only choose to suppress his feelings.
