In 1944, at Columbia University, a young student named Allen Ginsberg (played by Daniel Radcliffe) has his life changed by a handsome classmate named Lucien Carr (played by Dane DeHaan). Through Carr, he meets William S. Burroughs (played by Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (played by Jack Huston).
