In 1805, Napoleon was dominating the European continent, and in naval warfare, only the British fleet could rival him. Captain Jack (Russell Crowe) of the HMS Surprise was ordered to intercept the French warship Acheron in the South Pacific. The two ships first encountered each other off the northern coast of Brazil, where the Acheron, with its superior firepower and armor, defeated the Surprise, but Jack managed to escape thanks to the heavy fog. Although the initial battle was unfavorable, Jack, who had previously served under Admiral Nelson, remained confident in his ship and refused to turn back, opting instead to study the enemy. Before long, the two ships clashed again, and Jack turned the tide using a decoy tactic, pursuing the Acheron all the way to the stormy Cape Horn. Jack's determination drew the opposition of his friend, ship's doctor Stephen, but Jack's elite crew persisted through numerous challenges with targeted training. After Stephen suffered an unexpected injury, Jack halted the chase to rest on a small island, which unexpectedly provided him with inspiration for battle. Soon, the Acheron reappeared, and the two ships finally faced their fateful confrontation... This film won the 2004 Academy Award for Best Cinematography, Sound Editing, and over a dozen other accolades.
