"Petrov's Flu" is the latest work of the acclaimed Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov, known for his stunning film "Summer." After being placed under house arrest for supporting a gay stage play, he has returned to create with full creative power. Set against the backdrop of the post-Soviet era, the male protagonist, seemingly suffering from the flu, is constantly delayed on his way home by an eccentric old man and a writer seeking death. Under the influence of aspirin and vodka, his consciousness gradually blurs, leading him into the comic dreams of his own creation. The director employs his signature technique of using historical allegories to comment on contemporary issues, with fluid and dynamic transitions and overlapping dreams that evoke comparisons to the works of Charlie Kaufman in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and the Japanese animation master Satoshi Kon, providing an exhilarating experience.
