Michael (played by Andy Garcia) and Alice (played by Meg Ryan) live in a spacious apartment with a lovely child, and their life should be filled with happiness. However, Alice's drinking problem becomes a hidden danger to their happiness; when drunk, she can become violent towards their daughter. She realizes what her problem is and strives to correct it, so she checks into a rehabilitation center for alcohol addiction. When Michael sees his wife having a great time with others in the rehab center, he suddenly feels a sense of loss, as if he is no longer important in Alice's heart. Alice successfully overcomes her addiction and her personality changes, becoming much gentler than before. Alice continues to socialize with friends she met in rehab, which causes dissatisfaction for Michael. In a fit of anger, Michael leaves the home he shared with Alice. When the two meet again, Alice warmly invites him to her home for her recovery presentation. On the day of the presentation, Michael realizes just how much damage his actions have caused Alice...
