Jerry (Norma Shearer) and Ted (Chester Morris) are in love with each other, while Paul (Conrad Nagel) is deeply infatuated with Jerry. Ultimately, Jerry decides to choose Ted and rejects Paul, which leaves Paul very heartbroken. Distressed, Paul gets into a car accident that disfigures his companion, Dorothy (Judith Wood). Out of guilt, Paul decides to marry Dorothy, whom he does not love. Years pass, and Jerry and Ted's marriage is not as happy as they imagined. Ted spends all his time at various parties, leaving Jerry to drown her sorrows in alcohol. One day, Jerry reunites with Paul, who is still deeply in love with her, leading to a forbidden romance between the two.
