Zhang Xin (played by Lynn Hung) learns that her landlord's wife and child died in a mudslide, and she starts seeing their ghosts, which drives her boyfriend to leave her out of unbearable torment. In desperation, she seeks help from psychologist Ah Zhan (played by Leslie Cheung). Ah Zhan knows that what Zhang Xin sees is merely an illusion created by long-term isolation and begins to exert all his effort to help her, eventually making her gradually detach from her terrifying imaginings. During this process, the two develop feelings for each other. When she is in Ah Zhan's living space, Zhang Xin discovers that he exhibits many strange behaviors. After investigation, she finds out that he suffers from severe schizophrenia and is tormented by hallucinations at night. To help her lover return to a normal state, Zhang Xin decides to assist him in expelling the demons within his mind.
