This film tells the story of how a kindergarten principal guides three young offenders to the right path. Coincidentally, the cute Troshkin looks just like the dangerous thief Dotsent, almost like a pair of twins. The police send him to infiltrate Dotsent's criminal gang to find out where they hide the stolen goods. However, the true Dotsent, having escaped from prison, complicates matters. This movie is categorized as a New Year comedy because the most touching moment, where the fugitive admits that his lifestyle is wrong, happens to occur during the transition from one year to the next. "Lucky Mr." is not just a New Year comedy; in fact, this film is considered one of the best Soviet movies. There are no exact statistics, but subjectively, it feels like this film has produced the most famous quotes in Soviet cinema, with a rough estimate of over one hundred and fifty lines. A statue of Evgeniy Leonov, who played Dotsent, has been erected opposite the Mosfilm studio. In Russia, hardly anyone fails to recognize this famous actor and the character from the film. Interestingly, the authorities were hesitant to screen the film due to the extensive use of prison slang, but it was ultimately approved for release by Leonid Brezhnev, the General Secretary of the Soviet Union.
