The film is adapted from the 2012 memoir of the same name by American author Cheryl Strayed. It tells the story of a woman who, after her marriage falls apart and her mother passes away, spends many years living in despair. Despite having no hiking experience, she embarks alone on the Pacific Crest Trail, seeking to rediscover herself through long-distance walking.
