The story picks up where the last one left off. The adorable female dolphin Winter has now become a famous star animal known throughout the United States. She has settled in at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium with her young owner, Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) and her caregiver, Dr. Cameron McCarthy (Morgan Freeman). Together, they occasionally put on enjoyable shows, earning the audience's praise and applause. Just when it seemed that the past troubles were behind them and a wonderful life was about to continue, a new regulation issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture causes Sawyer and the others to fall into trouble again. According to the regulation, Winter can only remain at the aquarium if she finds a companion; otherwise, she will be returned to the ocean, back to nature. Thus, Dr. Cameron begins the challenging task of setting up “dates” for Winter, but it turns out to be much more difficult than expected.
