Zhou Ruofen (played by Julie Ang) is a successful fashion designer. On the eve of a fashion show, her six-year-old son, Xiao Wei, suddenly goes missing. Xiao Wei often plays sword-fighting games with his friends and usually carries a wooden sword. Detective Zheng Zhong (played by Eddie) in charge of the investigation uncovers a hidden conspiracy during the examination of the case... This film is the debut feature directed by the emerging Taiwanese director Ke Yizheng, starring Julie Ang in "The Sword-bearing Child" in 1983. In 1983, the Hong Kong-based production company xinyi city hired Julie Ang as the director. After taking office, she proposed a production policy of “splitting Taiwan and Hong Kong,” adopting different production strategies from the parent company and making “Taiwanese local art films.” She brought in young directors and produced four films with very unique themes and styles: Lin Qingjie’s “On and Off the Stage,” Ke Yizheng’s “The Sword-bearing Child,” Yang Dachang’s “A Day at the Beach,” and Yu Kanping’s “Wrong Carriage.” These films “received unanimous praise from the Taiwanese and Hong Kong film critics, making xinyi city Taiwan branch an important venue for cultivating Taiwanese new cinema”
