Hume (played by Benoît Poelvoorde) works in Paris repairing paintings and has recently noticed something off about his wife's behavior. However, when he finally comes face to face with his rival, his cowardly nature causes him to back down from the competition. Meanwhile, in another timeline, a group of slaves in a wild land suffers under the forced sacrifices imposed by the ogre Zoltan and his servants. Their only hope is the arrival of a prophesied savior to liberate them from Zoltan's grasp. Hume frequently finds himself slipping into another world amid his tumultuous life and begins to embrace the slaves' hopes, leading them in a rebellion against Zoltan. Utilizing the theoretical knowledge learned from studying "The Prince" and "The Thirty-Six Stratagems" in the real world, Hume leads the slave army to drive back Zoltan's servants and establishes his own dictatorial kingdom. A grand city rises in the valley, and Hume undergoes a complete transformation. Soon, the slaves begin to reminisce about their old lives as they grow weary of labor, leading to a shake-up in Hume's position, prompting him to choose to return to the real world to confront his true problems.
