The film is based on a true story. The breakdown of his family leaves James (Luke Treadaway) devastated and leads him to self-destructive behavior; he becomes addicted to drugs, is broke, and turns into a street performer. Val (Joanne Froggatt) is the doctor at the rehab center responsible for James, and with her help, James finally finds a shelter from the storm. Val believes that James can overcome the temptation of drugs through his own willpower. One day, a stray cat enters James's home, and he adopts it, naming it Bob. When James goes out to perform on the streets, Bob follows him closely. Soon, this duo of man and cat draws the attention of passersby, significantly improving James's financial situation. At the same time, James meets Bella (Ruta Gedmintas), who lives next door, and he rekindles his desire for love through her.
