In the symphony orchestra, the insignificant character Gauss is incompetent and often absent from practice. However, it seems that fate is particularly kind to him, allowing him to become the leader of the orchestra, with a beautiful woman by his side; the initially foolish and insecure Gauss begins to grow arrogant, even displaying a unique artistic ambition. The absurdity of life lies not in whether success or failure is justified, but in the fact that, regardless of success or failure, one's fate is ultimately beyond one's control. As a case, Gauss highlights not only the inhumanity under the machinery of state power. Due to the sensitive subject matter, production was delayed for seven years, and Peter Solan also became a case in point, using satire as a form of resistance, thus establishing a reference point.
