In the year 1126, the first year of the Jingkang era of the Northern Song dynasty, 40,000 Iron Cavalry from the Jurchens in the north invaded the Central Plains. Due to the blindness of the supreme emperor Song Huizong and the dispersion of military resources, the Jurchens advanced rapidly, as if entering a no-man's land. They burned, killed, and plundered their way straight to the capital, Dongjing Bianliang. On the day the city fell, the Jurchens captured the two emperors, Huizong and Qinzong, marking the shame of Jingkang. After that, Qinzong's brother Zhao Gao ascended to the throne as Emperor Gaozong. The heroic Yue Fei protected Emperor Gaozong, who was besieged at Niutou Mountain.
