The story takes place in a small village in the southern mountainous area, where Jin Zhu (played by Wang Yan) tragically loses her husband Wang Da Meng in a mining accident, leaving her and her daughter Huan Huan to rely on each other. Wang Da Meng has a younger brother, Er Meng, who is treated like a son by his elder sister-in-law. Jin Zhu not only takes care of Er Meng in daily life but also finds him a beautiful girlfriend, Feng Yue. However, there is a huge disparity in values between Er Meng and Feng Yue; Er Meng wants to work hard in the mine to contribute to the country, while Feng Yue worries about his safety and does not support his job, leading to their eventual separation.
