The lovesick sharpshooter Jackie (played by Mia Farrow) introduces her poor fiancé Simon Doyle (played by Simon MacCorkindale) to her friend Linnet Ridgeway (played by Lois Chiles) for a job at her estate. However, soon after, Simon marries Linnet, and the two embark on a honeymoon in Egypt, utterly enamored with each other. An angry Jackie follows them to Egypt, persistently harassing them. On a cruise on the Nile, Linnet discovers that many other tourists on board harbor ill intentions, in addition to Jackie. While visiting the Karnak Temple, a massive stone falls from a high pillar, nearly claiming the lives of Simon and Linnet below. However, the attempts on Linnet’s life do not cease. Linnet narrowly escapes one attempt, but not the next. Tragically, Linnet ends up dead in her bed, and her maid Louise (played by Jane Birkin) and Mrs. Salome Otterbourne (played by Angela Lansbury), who claimed to have witnessed the killer, are silenced. After an investigation, detective Hercule Poirot (played by Peter Ustinov) discovers that nearly every tourist, aside from Jackie and Simon, has ample motive and opportunity to commit the crime. So, who is the murderer? How did they execute the crime? And who was it that pushed down the massive stone?
