Yuli (the nickname of Carlos Acosta) is a talented boy who is unruly and dislikes school, spending his days hanging out on the streets of Havana, battling in street dance. His father is well aware of his son's dancing talent and forcefully pulls him off the streets, making him attend the Cuban National Ballet School to study ballet. The playful Yuli has no interest in wearing tight pants and just wants to be a football star like King Pele, often expressing his reluctance through skipping classes and fighting. However, under the careful training and guidance of the school's teachers, he eventually dives headfirst into the enchanting world of dance. With his talent and hard work, he gradually builds a legendary life for himself, becoming a dazzling principal dancer and breaking traditions by being the first black dancer to perform Romeo with the Royal Ballet in London, crafting a brilliant 17-year career. ☆Produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) ☆Based on the autobiography of the greatest dancer of this generation, Carlos Acosta ☆Created by Paul Laverty, award-winning writer of "I, Daniel Blake" ☆Directed by Isabel Coixet, award-winning female director of "The Bookshop" ☆Music by Oscar-nominated composer Alberto Iglesias, contributing to the score ✯Winner of Best Screenplay at the San Sebastián International Film Festival ✯Winner of Audience Award for Best Film at the Minsk International Film Festival ✯Nominated for Best Feature Film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival ✯Nominated for 5 Goya Awards in Spain ✯Nominated for Best New Actor, Cinematography, and Music at the Spanish Critics Association Awards ✯Nominated for Best Original Music at the Spanish Film Academy Awards ✯Nominated for Best Feature Film at the Hamburg Film Festival ✯Nominated for Best Feature Film at the Miami Film Festival
