A computer chip from the U.S. Department of Defense has gone missing, containing highly classified information. International criminals have driven its price to astronomical levels. To complete the transaction, the criminals hid it in a toy remote-controlled car, successfully passing through airport security. However, due to an unfortunate mix-up, the car was swapped by an elderly lady, ultimately ending up in the hands of 8-year-old Alex (played by Alex D. Linz). To retrieve the chip, the professionally trained criminals infiltrated the neighborhood where Alex lived. One night, Alex was left home alone due to chickenpox, giving the criminals a significant opportunity. However... Alex was not the 8-year-old boy they expected; he had unexpected "weapons" and ultimately defeated the criminals with his intelligence. Due to the main character Macaulay Culkin being grown up by the time the third installment began filming, a new young lead, Alex D. Linz, was introduced.
