In a poor family, Ali (Amir Farrokh Hashemian) accidentally loses his sister Zahra's (Bahare Seddiqi) repaired shoes while helping her pick them up. To avoid being punished by their father (Mohammad Amir Naji) and mother (Fereshte Sarabandi), he begs Zahra to keep it a secret for the time being, suggesting that they can alternate wearing his shoes to school and promising to buy her a new pair. Ali originally hoped to use the money he and his father earned from working in the city to buy Zahra a new pair of shoes, but his father's unexpected injury shattered that dream. When he sees that the prize for the third place in the city's long-distance running competition is a pair of sneakers, Ali decides to enter the race, but he misses the registration deadline. After much pleading, the teacher (Dariush Mokhtari) makes an exception and allows the talented Ali to participate in the competition. On the racecourse, Ali constantly reminds himself that he must finish in third place!
