The disheveled middle-aged man, Yoshida Ryota (played by Abe Hiroshi), is a private detective. He debuted as a writer in his early years, but since his first work, he has not produced any noteworthy pieces. He is full of complaints, views himself as superior, and is unwilling to create soulless works for money. In real life, he struggles with financial issues and when he finally gets money, he quickly tosses it into the casino, without any hope. His mother, Yoshiko (played by Kiki Kirin), lives alone in a housing complex, believing that even the worst son has incomparable merits. Ryota originally had a happy family, but his ex-wife, Shiraishi Kyoko (played by Maki Yoko), could no longer tolerate him and after their divorce, she moved on with their son, Shingo (played by Yoshizawa Taiyo). When Ryota finally meets his son, he reunites with him and Kyoko at his mother's house. A typhoon hits, forcing them to stay overnight at their grandmother's house filled with past memories. On a noisy yet calm night, some things change quietly...
