Alex (played by Konstantin Lavronenko) and his wife Vera (played by Maria Bonnevie) take their children to their old home in the countryside for a vacation. The leisurely life and beautiful scenery soothe the family's tired souls. While Alex is immersed in the tranquil atmosphere, Vera reveals to her husband that she is pregnant, shocking Alex with the revelation that the child is not his. Devastated by this blow, Alex confides in his brother Mark (played by Aleksandr Baluev) about his anger and disappointment. In their discussions, Alex decides to have Vera undergo an abortion. Unfortunately, Vera dies on the operating table, causing Alex's world to collapse. His sorrow and anger turn into hatred as he vows to find his wife's lover and make him experience the same pain.
