The Queen Consort of the Golden Wheel Kingdom (Ye Yuqing) has an affair with her cousin Ouyang Feng (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai). To seize the throne, they poison the king but fail to locate the imperial jade seal. Upon discovering that the seal is in the possession of the Third Princess (Brigitte Lin), who is seeking help from her master at Nine Palaces Mountain, Ouyang Feng tries to seize it but fails. The muddled national master (Maggie Cheung) succumbs under duress and reveals the Third Princess's whereabouts. Ouyang Feng pursues her using a rocket-boot, but accidentally kills Wang Chongyang (Chung Chin-tong), who is seriously injured and pleads with the passing Third Princess to find his junior brother Zhou Botong (Carina Lau) for revenge. The Third Princess, having escaped to Nine Palaces Mountain, invites her junior brother Huang Yaoshi (Leslie Cheung) and junior sister (Joey Wong) for assistance.
