The story takes place in Newcastle, in northern England. Due to the subprime crisis, Ricky (played by Kris Hitchen) not only lost his job but also accrued massive debt. To make ends meet, Ricky took out a loan to buy a small van, intending to launch a new business by making deliveries. However, this thoughtless decision brought irreversible harm to the entire family. Ricky's wife Abby (played by Debbie Honeywood) works as a domestic helper, serving the elderly and disabled. Now, she has to rely on buses to travel between different employers, leaving her feeling exhausted. To repay the loan on the van, Ricky has to spend more time working, which causes their oldest son Seb (played by Rhys Stone) to feel neglected.
