Nixon (Frank Langella) resigned after the Watergate scandal but never admitted his mistakes to the public; he owes an apology to the American people. Foster (Michael Sheen) is a British playboy hosting a talk show in Australia who gets the idea to interview Nixon after seeing him leave the White House by helicopter during a live broadcast. No one expects much from Foster, and no television network is willing to pay for his interview. His friend John (Matthew Macfadyen) recruits well-known journalist Bob (Oliver Platt) and Nixon expert James to form a team and begin digging for information. Foster pays for the initial interview himself, getting an opportunity to meet Nixon and schedule a series of interviews. The team prepares questions desperately to force Nixon to confess during the interview. Nixon's advisors are also busy preparing their responses, never taking Foster seriously. When the official interview starts, Foster struggles against Nixon's relentless self-defense, leading him to take drastic measures in search of breakthroughs…
